Most law enforcement organizations nowadays require a Personality Profile as part of their hiring process. This assessment is also be known as the Work Style Questionnaire or Personality Test. It has similarities to the psychological exam but is much less formal and does not require interaction with a trained psychologist.

Most businesses use a Personality Assessment as part of their hiring, so it is not unique to law enforcement. The goal is to determine if the applicant is a good fit for the expectations of the job and will fit into the workplace.

The result provides a picture of the applicant’s “Big Five Personality Traits,” which are: Stability, Openness, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness and Extroversion.

The Personality Assessment is frequently given at the start of the hiring process as a screening tool because it does not cost much compared to later assessments like the polygraph or a full psychological exam.

However, what is really desired nowadays are candidates who do not view the world as black and white.
